I was raised by a single Mom. I began helping her balance her budget and pay bills when I was in middle school. I worked full-time midnight shift while earning my bachelor's degree in Computer Science. I worked in the telecommunications industry for 10 years before marrying my husband Kevin. We've been married for 28 years and have lived in the district for 20 years. We have two young adult sons. After our youngest experienced severe global disabilities as an infant, I became his full-time healthcare and education advocate. For 20 years I filled critical leadership roles at church, boy scouts, schools, homeowners association, and with the Kansas Federation of Democratic Women. I will bring my wealth of life experiences and advocacy to find common-sense bi-partisan solutions to real problems Kansans face.
  • Access to healthcare strengthens our workforce, preserves our hospitals, and grows the economy. Medicaid Expansion is critical to families who lost jobs and health insurance as a result of COVID-19 and brings federal dollars back to the state.
  • A high quality public education is essential for success in the 21st century global economy. An educated workforce brings economic prosperity to hardworking families. We must ensure our schools safely operate with COVID-19 accommodations.
  • Improve infrastructure to fund fiscally responsible, maintained roads, bridges, and broadband will be the path to economic recovery.
Healthcare including mental health services, public education, and broadband as a utility.
As a teen, I worked for a string of fast-food restaurants that all closed within three years. This taught me valuable lessons in perserverance, customer service, and sound business practices. I learned every job at a company is important and that teamwork is necessary for the success of that company. The money I earned was used for high school expenses teaching me self sufficiency.
The greatest challenge for the state in the next decade will be rebuilding the economy in the aftermath of the global pandemic. We rebuild our economy by getting people back to work with infrastructure projects, installing broadband, refinancing our debt and bringing federal dollars back to Kansas by expanding Medicaid.
I believe it's important to build relationships with other legislators. We need to be willing to listen to other viewpoints, regardless of political party and without the influence of special-interest groups. We may not agree with one another. However, we need to find a way to develop solutions through compromise. In the end, the legislative process and the legislation should benefit our constituents.

I spoke with a woman who lost her husband due to COVID. She shared stories about him: where he was from, what he did, and what their children do. She was heartbroken and in tears as she relayed how they lived their life. Her husband, suffering from Alzheimer's disease, lived in a nursing home and because of COVID she hadn't been able to visit him in months. He died alone without his family able to properly say goodbye to him. His death haunts her, knowing how he must have struggled in his final moments. Weeks after his death, she continues to have trouble sleeping through the night missing him all the more.

She's saddened and angry that elected officials and the general public dismiss the threat of COVID-19 by not taking it seriously. To her, it diminishes her husband's life and his death.

It broke my heart. Hearing her story illustrates how this disease is literally robbing people of intimate family connections of being together and comforting one another in difficult times.

She is one of many who continue to suffer that energizes me to advocate even more on their behalf.
