Undeclared Write-insUndeclared write-in candidates may advance past the first round in some ranked-choice elections. If the official source reports write-in votes by candidate name, Ballotpedia displays them alongside the ballot-qualified candidates. However, if write-in votes are reported without a name, they will instead be included in the total write-in votes figure in Round 1. I grew up in the Twin Cities and live in the Seward neighborhood with my husband and two young children. I work in the transportation field and bring a perspective of environmental sustainability and equity to that work. My professional focus and personal passion is helping my neighbors make everyday changes to the way they get around for their health, the environment, and our community. I am a dedicated Minneapolis Public Schools and MPRB Rec Plus parent and believe that we must do more to support the success of working families. I’m an active member of the Sierra Club North Star Chapter and their Land Use and Transportation Committee. I have a B.A. in Geography and International Development and a Master’s in GIS from Clark University.
I joined this race because District 3 residents deserve a commissioner who is going to show up and be present - who will listen, study, read every page of background material, and then make educated decisions at every meeting based on the best available information. I will bring to Board service a combination of time and commitment, strong analytical skills and leadership, plus a deep familiarity with Minneapolis communities and issues. I have connections not just with the environmental and transportation worlds but with business and immigrant communities and will use these relationships to make Minneapolis Parks great for everyo
- We need to adapt our parks to the impacts of climate change.
- We need to invest in youth programming.
- We need to use our parks as a platform to build community.
Most Minneapolis residents are blessed with wonderful neighborhood park amenities within easy walking distance. It’s much more difficult to access our high quality regional parks across the city on foot, by bike, or on transit. Our transportation network primarily serves people who drive and it shows. Sidewalk curb ramps are not always in the locations we need; busy roads cut off neighborhoods from parks, and the duration of transit trips is often double that of driving. As commissioner, I plan to seek out better collaborations with Metro Transit, allowing and encouraging transit buses to go on certain park-owned roads to key destinations within the system, such as Wirth Park’s ski chalet. Beyond transit routes, we can offer transit passes at MPRB programs or enrollment in key programs like TAP (Transit Assistance Program) to help improve access for Minneapolis residents not just to parks but also for grocery shopping and jobs. We need to look closely at how we manage parking in the system and prioritize parking for seniors, people with disabilities, and other groups of people who must drive in parks where there is high parking demand in comparison with parking supply. We need to make sure that sidewalks and paths where people walk, run, or roll are prioritized for plowing so that people who use wheelchairs or strollers are able to use our parks in all weather. We need to support better, safer infrastructure so that people of all ages can move around our city sustainably.
I recommend The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History, by Elizabeth Kolbert.
I love the reggaeton group Gente de Zona.
