My name is Bekah. I'm 30-years old and a resident of Live Oak, TX just outside of San Antonio. I grew up in Australia, Kansas, and Chicago before landing with my family in New Braunfels, Texas in 2004.

I am a Libertarian. I believe in maximum Liberty for every individual. I want peaceful people to be free to live their life as they see fit, as long as they do not hurt others or infringe on another's rights. The government is nothing but raw force, and should only be used to protect the rights of the individuals. Policing people for personal choices is not the business of any government, that cannot grant people their rights, but can only take them away.

I live my life by the non-aggression principle, and I believe that government should follow this also. I will never instigate or escalate force to accomplish a political or social goals, and government shouldn't either.

It's my strong opinion that our election system is broken and we will continue to get more of the same failures until we fix the root of the problem. I'm an advocate for Approval Voting, and you can learn more about that here: https://electionscience.org/library/approval-voting/
  • Voters deserve more options than the two failed parties. We must #endtwopartyrule.

  • Government and politicians are not the answer to the majority of our problems and most of the time we need them to get out of the way.

  • We must put a stop to endless, immoral, deathly, costly foreign wars. It is time for an America at peace.
Elections - Voter supression happens long before election day. Republicans and Democrats are complicit when they pass laws to keep third parties and Independents off the ballot. The Media is complicit when they endlessly cover old party candidates, but shut out other voices. Pundits and politicians who sow fear into people to keep them from voting how they see fit, but instead picking a slightly lesser evil than another, they are complicit.

The War on Drugs - We must end mass encarceration for possession of drugs. Marijuana must be descheduled at the federal level.

Police Accountability - We need to end Qualified Immunity now and hold law enforcement to the same standard as other citizens.

Immigration - The free movement of peaceful people should not be infringed by government.

The National Debt - We are robbing the future of this country. Every child born in America right now is born indebted to our government's endless spending. We have to make cuts with a machete, not a scalpel, and seriously tackle the debt and the deficit.

Foreign Wars - Bring them home. Bring them ALL home. Now. Our War on Terror has only caused more terror. This has to stop.

Education - A top down, one-size-fits-all mandate for education has proven to be a failure. We need to abolish the Department of Education and allow parents, students, teachers, and local elected officials make decisions regarding education in their own communities.
My always first is Christ. I want to live my life with the radical love that he lived and died with.

My parents. I was immeasurably blessed by the love and joy and instruction that I was raised with, and I aim to be a source of pride for my family, though we do not always agree.

People who sacrifice their own lives, their happiness, their future, for those they will never know because it is the right thing to do. This includes many people, but the one that stands out to me most is Edward Snowden.

The principle of Individual Liberty chief over anything else. Elected officials are not more capable of making decisions for others, and they shouldn't try.

I want to move the needle toward a world set free in my lifetime.
I have very vague memories of Princess Diana dying - I was 7 at the time. September 11th was certainly the most clear in my memory, and I was 11.
My first job was as a party host when I was 14-15. I dressed up as Snow White and hosted kids' birthday parties, and worked in a retail shop.
Choosing one is awful.

The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien is the most magical book and I return to it frequently.

The last book I read that was truly excellent is The Immoral Majority by Brn Howe.
I'm blessed and privileged more than I deserve. I am one of 8 children and my dad is a pastor - I certainly have never known great wealth, however that has pushed me to develop a strong work ethic and gratitude for all I have.
I want to leave it to a more impartial algorithm that is not manipulated by politics.
What makes it unique is also where it has failed. It is meant to be a check on other branches of government, but as executive power has expanded, the House has widely failed to balance that out.
I don't. I think having experiences of working with those you disagree, and learning to be a leader and communicator are important, but being tied into a political machine does not automatically give you any great qualities for Representing constituents.
Tribalism has poisoned our nation. The Republicans and Democrats no longer represent principles or values, but largely seek to use the power and force of government against those they perceive as their enemies. I believe the broken and increasingly divisive core within our nation is far more dangerous than any external threat.
I support term limits, but I do not think that will solve all of our systemic problems.
I believe that Rep. Justin Amash has acted on his principles and been steadfast in his duties. I'd want others to be able to say the same of me.
