The city of New Orleans, Louisiana, held primary elections for mayor and seven city council seats on October 14, 2017. A general election took place on November 18, 2017, for races where no candidate received 50 percent of the primary vote. The filing deadline for this election was July 14, 2017.[1][2] Incumbent Jared Brossett (D) defeated Joel Jackson (D) and Thad Cossabone (No Party) in the primary election for the District D seat on the New Orleans City Council.

Batiste was a Democratic candidate for District D representative on the New Orleans City Council in Louisiana. Batiste was disqualified from the 2017 primary ballot due to failure to file state income taxes.[3]
