Bellevue Parks Levy (2008)
The Bellevue Parks Levy or Proposition 1 was a legislatively referred measure in King County in the city of Bellevue The goal of the levy was to renew an expiring tax levy for the Parks Department in the amount of $40.5 million dollars. That money breaks down into $0.12 per $1,000 of assessed value, or approximately $71.00 per year on the average Bellevue home.[1][2]

Fines issued to city officials for funds violation
The State of Washington Public Disclosure Commission (PDC) charged Bellevue city officials with violating a prohibition against using tax dollars for campaign purposes.[3][4] The Parks Department reportedly paid $25,000 for a telephone poll asking registered voters how much they would be willing to pay in higher taxes. A spokesperson for the Parks Department denied wrongdoing.[5]
On October 12, 2011, the PDC found parks department director Patrick Foran and fiscal manager Doug Sanner responsible for authorizing funds to support passage of the ballot measure. Each was fined $1,000 with $500 suspended as long as they committed no further violations.[6]
