Dr. Ben Carson (R) officially announced his bid for the presidency this evening during an interview with Sinclair Broadcasting. The announcement came the night before a scheduled event in his hometown of Detroit, Mich. "I’m willing to be a part of the equation, and, therefore, I’m announcing my candidacy for president of the United States," Carson said.[1]
At age 33, Carson became the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins University, making him the youngest major division director in the hospital's history.[2] He was also a professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery and pediatric medicine.[3] Carson gained popularity with conservatives after his speech at the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast. Carson expressed his dissatisfaction with President Barack Obama's policies and the direction of the country.[4]
