Ben Mitchell
Ben Mitchell (Democratic Party) ran for election to the U.S. House to represent Vermont's At-Large Congressional District. Mitchell lost in the Democratic primary on August 14, 2018.
Mitchell unofficially withdrew from the race prior to the primary election.[1]
Mitchell was a Liberty Union Party candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Vermont in the 2012 elections.[2] He previously ran for Governor of Vermont in 2010.
Biography
Mitchell grew up in Connecticut but moved to Vermont to attend college. He earned his bachelor's degree from Vermont College in 1995, and three years later he graduated from Goddard College with a Master's in Fine Arts. Mitchell had begun teaching at The Union Institute and University in Vermont in 1993 while he was still a student, and he still teaches there today. He is also an Assistant Professor at Landmark College.[3]

Mitchell ran for Vermont Lieutenant Governor in 2012. He was defeated by incumbent Phillip Scott (R) and Cassandra Gekas (D) in the general election on November 6th.[2][4]

Mitchell faced Peter Shumlin (D), Brian Dubie (R), and five other challengers in the general election on November 2, 2010.
Campaign themes
2012
On his campaign website, Mitchell states: "My basic platform is to take control of Vermont state resources back into the hands of the people." He lists socialized energy, marijuana legalization and building a sustainable local economy as key issues of his 2012 campaign for lieutenant governor.[5]

Mitchell currently resides in Westminster, Vermont. He has a wife, Kathy Mazziott, and two children, Nicholas and Lucy.[5]
