Benjamin Chavez was a judge for Division XIX of the New Mexico 2nd Judicial District Court. He assumed office in 2013. He left office on January 20, 2024.

Chavez ran for re-election for the Division XIX judge of the New Mexico 2nd Judicial District Court. He won in the retention election on November 3, 2020.

Chavez was previously the judge for Judicial Division 13 of the Bernalillo Metropolitan Courts.[1][2]

2012

Benjamin Chavez ran successfully for a seat on the New Mexico Second Judicial District Court, Division 19.[4] He defeated incumbent Samuel L. Winder in the general election after running unopposed in the Democratic primary on June 5th.[5][6]

Chavez received his B.A. in English from the University of New Mexico in 1992; he received his J.D. from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1996.[2]

Career

Prior to joining the court Chavez worked as an attorney in several different firms and in public service. Chavez worked as an assistant city attorney for Albuquerque, New Mexico, an assistant district attorney (Felony Prosecutor) in the Second Judicial District Attorney's Office, Albuquerque, New Mexico, a narcotics prosecutor, an assistant district attorney (DWI Prosecutor) in the Eighth Judicial District Attorney's Office, Taos, New Mexico, a Taos County DWI Prosecutor, and an associate attorney with Duhigg, Cronin, Spring & Berlin, P.A.[2]
