Benjamin D. Galloway is a judge of the Superior Court of Sacramento County in California. He assumed office in 2021. His current term ends on January 6, 2031.
Galloway won re-election for judge of the Superior Court of Sacramento County in California outright in the primary on March 5, 2024, after the primary and general election were canceled.
Galloway was appointed to the court on July 9, 2021, by Gavin Newsom (D) to replace Judy Holzer Hersher. Although California Superior Court judges are elected in nonpartisan elections, a press release from Newsom's office announcing Galloway's appointment identified him as a Democrat.[1]
Biography
Galloway received his J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law. He served as a Deputy Public Defender at the Santa Clara County Public Defender’s Office from 2001 to 2005, worked as an Attorney at Topel & Goodman LLP from 2005 to 2006, and erved as an Assistant Public Defender at the Sacramento County Public Defender’s Office from 2006 to 2007. From 2007 to 2017, Galloway served as an Assistant Federal Defender at the Office of the Federal Defender, Eastern District of California where he has been the Chief Assistant Federal Defender since 2017.[1]
