Franklin ran for election to the 19A Judicial District.
General: He was defeated in the general election on November 4, 2014, after receiving 47 percent of the vote. He competed against incumbent Judge Donna H. Johnson.

Judicial performance evaluation
In July 2014, the North Carolina Bar Association released the results of a survey in which it asked lawyers to rate the judicial candidates for the trial courts. The candidates were rated from one to five on five different criteria as well as on their overall performance.[2]

Education
Franklin received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1987, and his J.D. from Campbell University in 1990. He was admitted to the bar in 1990.[3][4]
