Noteworthy cases

Child custody hearing during U.S. coronavirus pandemic, 2020

In April 2020, Shapiro issued a ruling granting full custody of the daughter of Dr. Theresa Greene, an emergency room physician, to the child's father, Eric Greene. The divorced parents previously shared custody of the child, but Shapiro ruled to change the custody arrangement to mitigate the child's exposure to the coronavirus. Shapiro wrote in the ruling, "The Court does not enter this Order lightly but given the pandemic in Florida and the recent increase in confirmed COVID-19 cases, the Court finds in order to insulate and protect the best interests and health of the minor child, this Order must be entered on a temporary basis."[6]
