Leon Bernard "Burt" Smithart is the presiding Democratic judge of Circuit 3 in Alabama (Barbour and Bullock counties). He has served in this position since January of 1999. Smithart won re-election in the general election on November 8, 2016.[1][2]

Biography

Smithart received his undergraduate degree (1985) and J.D. (1989) from the University of Alabama. He was then admitted to the Alabama Bar on September 28, 1989.[3] [4][2]

Smithart served as an assistant district attorney for Bullock County. From 1989 to January 1999, he was a partner with the firm of Jinks, Smithart, Jackson & Daniel, L.L.C.[2]
