Bernard Zimmerman
Bernard Zimmerman was a recalled federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. He was first appointed to this court on November 21, 1995, and he retired on May 31, 2011. He temporarily served as a recalled magistrate on the court.[1][2][3]
Education
Judge Zimmerman received his A.B. degree from the University of Rochester in 1967 and his J.D. degree from the University of Chicago in 1970.[1]
Career
Judge Zimmerman began his career in 1970 as a law clerk on the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Louisiana. The following year, he became an Assistant Professor of Law at Louisiana State University Law Center. From 1972 to 1980, he worked as an attorney for the firm Pillsbury, Madison and Sutro. Zimmerman worked briefly as a Deputy Public Defender for the City and County of San Francisco in 1975. He became a partner of Pillsbury, Madison and Sutro in 1980, and worked in this position through 1994. He worked as legal counsel for the Third Constitutional Convention of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands in 1995. He became a magistrate judge later that year.[1]
