Bert Dodson was a 2011 Democratic candidate for District 22 of the Virginia State Senate. He formerly served on the Lynchburg City Council for 12 years, with six of those served as Vice Mayor.

Dodson attended Virginia Tech and earned his B.A. from the University of Richmond School of Business in 1976. He is President and CEO of Dodson Pest Control.

Dodson ran in the 2011 election for Virginia Senate District 22. He was uncontested in the August 23 primary. Thomas Garrett defeated Brian Bates, Mark Peake, Bryan Rhode, and Claudia Tucker to capture the Republican ticket. Dodson was defeated by Garrett in the general election on November 8, 2011.Cite error: Closing </ref> missing for <ref> tag

Early in the campaign Dodson said the Republican primary was simply a way to determine who would lose to him. The week before the election Dodson stated, “I’m still confident that we can win. About 44 percent of the registered voters in the district are in the Lynchburg area, and I have great name recognition here.”[1]
