Biography
Bert Kobayashi graduated from Kaimuki High School. Kobayashi earned a degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and a Ph.D. in political science from Michigan State University. His career experience includes working as a professor with American University and as an administrator with the State of Hawaii Hospital System.[1]

The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 3, 2014. Incumbent Bertrand "Bert" Kobayashi was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Victoria Elizabeth Mathieu was unopposed in the Republican primary. Kobayashi defeated Mathieu and Anthony Higa (L) in the general election.[5][6][7]
