Campaign themes

2016

Hogan's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]

Develop a Balanced Budget

I will work diligently to openly and responsibly address and correct the systemic structural deficiencies in our pension and budget shortfalls. We need a budget system that can be relied upon, is sustainable, and eliminates persistent systematic budget deficits that occur year after year.

Stimulate Economic Growth

I will work together with regional stakeholders to support and create new business opportunities. I believe we need economic growth that supports small businesses, provides real opportunities for young people, and promotes our workforce. We will work together to attract new businesses, foster a climate that creates good-paying jobs, and helps small businesses to grow.

Lessen the Tax Burden

I will work with leadership and my colleagues in Hartford to ensure East Lyme and Salem get their fair share of taxes back into the community to keep property taxes low. I will advocate for our fair share of the Educational Cost Sharing Grants and adequate PILOT payments for state owned property in our towns.

Protect Our Environment

I will support our Open Space and Land Trust communities by working together to secure the necessary natural resources and protection of our aquifer.

Promote Healthy Aging

I will support our seniors by expanding the Aging in Place initiatives that will allow our seniors to remain independent in their home by providing access to more support services. This will provide overall cost savings to our families and the state, and peace of mind.

Strengthen Our Local Communities

We need to find meaningful ways to keep our young families here by providing affordable education, job opportunities and affordable home ownership. I will work tirelessly to represent the best interests of our towns and will put the residents of East Lyme and Salem above the partisanship and politics we too often see in our legislature. Working together as one, we will meet these goals.[2]
