Campaign themes

2016

Tuura's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]

  • LGBT Equal Protection Under the Law

During this session the Competitive Workforce Act, a bill that would prevent employers from firing a person based on sexual orientation and gender identity, was shut down by the Florida legislature. As a fighter for both LGBTQ+ and women’s rights, I will stand up for equality and be an ally in Tallahassee. Floridians deserve someone who will listen and fight and stand up for them, and with me that is exactly what they will get.

  • Gun Control

The tragic events that have happened in my district have sparked a nationwide movement. It is time to address gun control in a serious way, to protect our children, our law enforcement, and our community. I will fight to ban assault rifles, expand background checks, and supporting no fly-no buy.

  • Education

My spouse is an educator in the public school system, and everynight I hear about how she and her colleagues are over workered and under valued. There is too much emphasis on tests and not enough on learning. It's time that we move forward on public education and put what's most important back at the center of it - our children and our teachers.

  • Health Care

There are also so many Floridians who fall into the Medicaid gap. I have met these people and I have put a face to the numbers we hear every single day. No one should have to decide between paying for rent and paying their health insurance premium. I want to work towards closing the gap.[2]
