Bethany J. Alvord is a judge on the Connecticut Appellate Court. She was appointed by Governor Mary Jodi Rell on April 22, 2009, and reappointed in 2017.[1][2] Her eight-year term will expire on April 21, 2025.[3]
Education
Alvord graduated from Colgate University in 1979 with a bachelor's degree in Russian studies and international relations. She received her J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1982.[1]
Career
Alvord started her legal career working for the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company. She was the second vice president and associate general counsel in its law department. In 1993, she joined Aetna as assistant vice president and legal counsel for the retirement division. In January of 1999, she became a Connecticut family support magistrate. She held this position until 2002, when she became a Superior Court judge. During her years on the Superior Court bench, Alvord served as the presiding judge of the family division in New Haven.[1]
