Growing up in a rural community in Kossuth, Mississippi, on my grandparents' 80-acre cattle farm, I learned the importance of tight-knit communities and the value of relying on our neighbors. Our daily activities included canning, hunting, and fishing, which were ingrained in our way of life. Despite my family's financial struggles, I never felt poor because our farming lifestyle ensured a full table. These experiences have inspired me to continue the farming tradition with my own family.

I am recognized both within the Capitol and across the state as a key advocate for medical cannabis, often referred to as "the cannabis girl" or "Maryjane." My efforts have played a leading role in bringing about significant changes in Mississippi's political landscape. We worked hand-in-hand with lawmakers to establish a multi-million-dollar industry that provides safe and effective medicine to patients. My extensive experience working in Jackson and throughout the state has given me a unique insight into the many challenges faced by our communities. With my expertise and background, I am confident in my ability to lead efforts toward a more sustainable future for both Mississippi and the planet.

  • Did you know that around 40% of the food in the United States ends up being wasted? Meanwhile, almost 19% of the population of Mississippi experiences food insecurity. Additionally, 25% of Americans currently rely on federal nutrition programs. To address this issue, we must prioritize self-sustainability practices, community-based economic development, and tax relief initiatives, such as eliminating the grocery tax, to enhance food security.
  • Are you aware that the industrial hemp market is predicted to reach $17 billion by 2030? However, Mississippi farmers must apply through the USDA to grow this adaptable crop. Hemp has the potential to substantially impact the global waste crisis and promote a sustainable future for all. It is crucial that we start utilizing the Hemp Cultivation Act of 2020, as Mississippi and the world could greatly benefit from increased hemp production. This act could offer more chances for Mississippi farmers to participate in the multi-billion-dollar industry and reduce their reliance on the federal government.
  • As a Mississippi resident, I'm concerned about rising food and gas costs and their impact on food security. We need to address key issues like food deserts, affordability, accessibility, quality, and shortages. Mississippi ranks last in the US for food security, with 77% of counties classified as food deserts. I propose a collaborative plan called the "Food As Medicine" plan to ensure all families get the nutrition they need for better health outcomes. Let's work together for a better future for Mississippi.
As an attentive listener, I am passionate about understanding the issues that affect the lives of Mississippians. I am committed to learning about a range of topics, from public health to education, so that I can better serve the needs of the community.
With my exceptional skills, I am capable of bringing together a multitude of individuals in Mississippi to work towards a common goal. Moreover, my extensive understanding of the interconnectivity of various aspects of our lives empowers me to create effective and innovative strategies that drive progress.
I aim to inspire women, young individuals, and everyday citizens to have faith in their capacity to make a difference in their community and encourage everyone to exercise their right to vote. Every small action can create a ripple effect that leads to positive change. I will continue to fight for a better future for Mississippi, one our children can be proud of.
From my perspective, the ideal candidate for this role should possess a deep passion surrounding public policy and regulation while also demonstrating a sincere dedication to the betterment of society.
Being a successful leader requires a willingness to listen to the viewpoints of countless dedicated small-scale farmers who work diligently to uphold our agricultural heritage and guarantee that our nearby communities have access to wholesome and fresh produce. It is essential to acknowledge and appreciate the hard work and dedication of these individuals to ensure their voices are heard and their contributions recognized. By valuing their insights and feedback, we can work together to create a more sustainable and equitable future for all.
