Betsy Butler
Betsy Butler was a 2014 Democratic candidate for District 26 of the California State Senate.
Butler served in the California State Assembly, representing District 53 from 2010 to 2012. She was formerly an intern for and for . Butler also served on the staff of the International Trade Administration of the United States Department of Commerce. She also interned for .
Biography
Butler earned her B.S. from San Diego University and graduated from the Executive Program in Management at the University of California Los Angeles. Her professional experience includes working as Director of Development for the Consumer Attorneys of California, as an intern for Senator Alan Cranston of the United States Senate, Lieutenant Governor Leo McCarthy of California and Assemblymember Lucy Killea.

The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 7, 2014. Ben Allen (D) and Sandra Fluke (D) defeated Barbi S. Appelquist (D), Betsy Butler (D), Amy Howorth (D), Vito Imbasciani (D), Patric M. Verrone (D) and Seth Stodder (I) in the blanket primary. Allen defeated Fluke in the general election.[1][2][3]

2012
Butler ran for re-election in the 2012 election for California State Assembly District 50. She was displaced from her current district by redistricting. She advanced past the blanket primary on June 5, 2012, defeating Torie Osborn (D) and Bradly Torgan (R). Butler was defeated by Richard Bloom (D) in the general election on November 6, 2012.[4][5][6]

2010
Butler defeated Kate Anderson, Nick Karno, James T. Lau, Edgar Saenz, Peter Luke Thottam, Diane M. Wallace, and Mitch Ward in the June 8 primary election. She then defeated Republican Nathan Mintz, Green Party candidate Lisa Ann Green, and Libertarian Ethan Musulin in the November 2 general election.[7][8]
