The Appleton Post Crescent surveyed the school board candidates. According to the Crescent, responses were edited for clarity and length. Below are Ellenberger's responses:[3]

Why are you running for office?

To continue the work we started. We have so many positive things happening in our district, and I am proud to be a part of them. For example, Neenah has the highest starting teacher salary, $42,000, in the Valley; the lowest student/staff ratio at the elementary level; and expanded implementation of 1:1 computers at grades K-12. I have only touched on some of the more highlighted programs but there is so much more that’s happening at Neenah.[4]

—Betsy Ellenberger[3]

What do you think are the key issues facing the community?

There is a continuing challenge of balancing top-notch education for our kids, safety in our schools, retaining the best staff, and being good stewards of taxpayer money. It's not the easiest of tasks considering our aging buildings and the need to be a competitive district. We continue to work though these challenges, and I have no doubt we will succeed.[4]

—Betsy Ellenberger[3]

What do you hope to accomplish, if elected?

Keep supporting the innovation at the district.

Expand our international service program to any child who wants to go. Let’s show off our district — destination Neenah![4]
