I am a retired teacher who has worked for years to improve my community. I look forward to having the opportunity to work in other neighborhoods to empower citizens and lift up voices to improve communities from the ground up.
  • Everyone deserves to feel a part of a community. I will work to strengthen neighborhood ties and empower citizens to speak up and generate change from the bottom up.
  • I will work to support local businesses and support budding entrepreneurs. Healthy communities have resources to meet their most basic economic needs. You shouldn't have to drive for miles to buy groceries or home repair supplies or find a good restaurant
  • We should all feel safe in our communities. We get there by knowing our neighbors, speaking up and stepping up when we see problems, and having effective and engaged police officers
My main interests are in:
planting trees and pollinator gardens,
empowering citizens to work together to achieve long-lasting change
Supporting efforts to reduce and adapt to climate disruption

I want to leave my community better than I found it.
Beauty, housing, strong communities
The first historical event that really stuck with me was a political rally for Ronald Reagan at my university. I went on to learn how decisions by a president can have very real world effects when he chose to take away my social security benefits, which were essential to funding my college education. I was an orphan and had no other financial resources. His decision left me in poverty and affected the rest of my life.
My first job was at Baskin-Robbins in Oxmoor Center. I worked there for seven years and still keep in touch with my former bosses, Bob and Barb Schissler
Overcoming the economic struggles of entering the workforce in a down economy.
