Betty Adams Green was a judge of the Davidson County Juvenile Court. She took office on September 1, 1998, following her election, and became the first female juvenile court judge in the county. On August 3, 2006, she was re-elected.[1][2][3] Green retired from the court on September 17, 2012.[4]

Biography and Education

Green received her B.A. degree from Vanderbilt University in 1968 and her M.A. degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 1972. She worked as a teacher and then for the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth prior to attending law school. She also took part in the development of the Tennessee Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges in 1980 and was appointed the first Executive Secretary of that agency in 1981. In 1985, she received her J.D. degree from the Nashville School of Law.[1]

Career

Green began her legal career as Executive Director of the Tennessee Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges in 1981. In 1985, after graduating from law school, she became an Assistant District Attorney for Nashville/Davidson County. She left that position in 1988 to work as a Commissioner Designee for the Tennessee Department of Youth Development, an agency that supervises juvenile offenders. The following year, she was promoted to Commissioner. She held that position until 1995, when she became Regional Vice-President of Business Development for Children's Comprehensive Services. In 1998, she was elected to the Juvenile Court, where she served until September 17, 2012.[1]
