An effort to recall three of the five members of the Beverly Hills Unified School District Board of Education in California did not go to a vote in 2023. Recall supporters did not file paperwork by a county deadline. Noah Margo, Amanda Stern, and Mary Wells were named in the recall petitions.[1][2]
The recall effort started after Ryan Faintich was fired from his position as a high school wrestling coach in November 2022 by Superintendent Michael Bregy. The decision to fire Faintich came after video surveillance showed Faintich pushing a student on campus.[3]
Path to the ballot

To get a recall effort on the ballot in California, supporters must collect petition signatures equal to 10% to 30% of registered voters in the jurisdiction depending on the size of the jurisdiction's population. They have between 40 and 160 days to circulate the petitions depending on the size of the jurisdiction's population.[4]
Before recall petitions can be circulated, initial paperwork must be filed with the relevant county election office. Supporters of the recall against Margo, Stern, and Wells served the three members with a notice of intent to recall on December 13, 2022. They filed that notice of intent with the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk, but they did not file paperwork showing that they had properly published the notice of intent in at least one newspaper.[1]
