An effort to recall two of the seven members of the Hazel Park Schools Board of Education in Michigan began in June 2025. Board President Beverly Hinton and board Vice President Deborah Laframboise were named in the recall petitions.[1]
The recall effort started after the board voted on January 27, 2025, to place Superintendent Amy Kruppe on non-disciplinary paid administrative leave while an investigation was being conducted. The board unanimously voted to reinstate Kruppe on May 15, 2025, and declined to release the results of the investigation.[2]

The recall petitions were filed by Ryann Voss. She said Kruppe had greatly improved district funds during her tenure as superintendent. "This is proof that Dr. Kruppe is really good at her job," Voss said before Kruppe was reinstated. "I believe they left it so vague because they don’t know what policy that she broke and they’re hoping that she did break one."[2]
Recall opponents
Hinton released the following statement during the investigation into Kruppe:[2]
“ | Two months ago the Board of Education approved the Allen Law Group, PC to perform a fact finding investigation. I was recently advised the investigation is close to being complete.
When it is a personnel matter people have legal rights, so until the investigation has concluded it is not appropriate for me to comment further. Be assured our primary focus always is the academic, social and emotional growth of our students.[3] |
