Two seats on the Bibb County Board of Education were up for general election on May 20, 2014. Newcomer Daryl Morton defeated James Bumpus for at-large Post 7, occupied by Lynn Farmer. Incumbent Wanda West defeated challenger Darren Latch for the at-large Post 8 seat.

Bibb County School District is located in Bibb County, Georgia. The county seat of Bibb County is Macon. Bibb County is home to 155,547 residents, according to the United States Census Bureau.[1] Bibb County School District was the 17th-largest school district in Georgia, serving 23,969 students students during the 2013-2014 school year.[2]

Demographics

Bibb County underperformed in comparison to the rest of Georgia in terms of higher education achievement and median household income in 2012. The United States Census Bureau found that 22.8 percent of Bibb County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 27.8 percent for Georgia as a whole. The median household income in Bibb County was $37,920 compared to $49,604 for the state of Georgia. The poverty rate in Bibb County was 23.5 percent compared to 17.4 percent for the entire state.[1]

Voter and candidate information

The Bibb County Board of Education consists of eight members elected to four-year terms. Two members are elected at-large and six by geographic district. There was no primary election and the general election was held on May 20, 2014. Two seats were up for election in 2014 and six seats will be up for election in 2016.[4]

Candidates began to file affidavits of candidacy on March 3, 2014. The filing deadline for school board candidates to get on the ballot in the general election was March 7, 2014.[5]
