Bikram Mohanty was a 2014 Democratic candidate for District 8 of the Georgia State Senate. He ran unsuccessfully for the same seat in 2012.

I am running because I am truly inspired to make a difference on the following issues:
  • To design a long term solution for the HOPE program.
  • To create term limits in the General Assembly.
  • To end teacher furlough days while strengthening and defending public education.
  • Work to reform the current student loan system.[2]

Elections for the Georgia State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election took place on May 20, 2014, with a runoff election taking place where necessary on July 22, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 7, 2014. Bikram K. Mohanty was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while C. Ellis Black and John P. Page advanced past Richard David Raines in the Republican primary. Black faced Page in a runoff election on July 22, 2014, which Black won. Mohanty was defeated by Black in the general election.[3][4][5][6]

Mohanty ran in the 2012 election for Georgia State Senate District 8. Mohanty ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on July 31, 2012, and was defeated by incumbent Tim Golden (R) in the general election on November 6, 2012.[7][8][9]
