Bill Bryant (Washington)
Bill Bryant was a Republican candidate for Governor of Washington in the 2016 elections.[1] He placed second in the August 2, 2016, top-two primary and advanced to the general election, where he was defeated by incumbent Governor Jay Inslee (D). He was defeated in the general election on November 8, 2016.
Bryant began his tenure as a Port of Seattle Commissioner for King County in January 2008. He was first elected to the commission in 2007 and was re-elected in 2011. His second term ended on December 31, 2015.[2]
Biography
Bryant is a Washington native and a graduate of Georgetown University, where he studied trade and diplomacy. He began his career serving as trade council director under former Washington Governor John Spellman, which led to several years of international trade work. Bryant's efforts abroad focused on expanding market opportunities for Washington-grown food.[2]
Relocating from Yakima to Seattle in 1992, Bryant founded Bryant Christie Inc., a company that allowed him to continue his previous work of cultivating new international markets and breaking down foreign trade barriers.[1] As noted in his Port of Seattle Commissioner biography, Bryant's knowledge of U.S. trade policies has earned him appointments by "both Democratic and Republican administrations, Congress, and the United States Export Import Bank."[2]
In addition, Bryant is an adviser and financial backer to Deneki Outdoors, which owns fly fishing camps in regions across the western hemisphere.[2]
