Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Heine's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Education: Education should not stop when the school bell rings at the end of the day. In order for children to be successful they need parents to be involved and work on improving their education at home. To accomplish this we need to focus on educating parents about how increased involvement in their children's education will statistically improve their odds of being successful through school and later in life.
  • Budget: The budget for our county needs to be constructed in a fiscally responsible manner that is transparent to the public with an auditing process in place. To do this a plan must be made with long-term objectives and revenue projections for the next five to ten years. This will allow for proper planning and forecasting of projects in our community. In addition to this contingency plans must be made for revenue shortages or overages to ensure that we are not caught off guard if revenue projections are not met.
  • Housing: While talking to community leaders I heard a great statement, "If you're good enough to work in our community you're good enough to live in our community." This leader was talking about the importance of maintaining housing that is affordable to those in our area who live on low to moderate levels of income. Measures need to be taken to ensure that those people and those families can find homes in our community without having these homes grouped into pockets set away from the rest of the community.
  • Public Transportation: On my way to work every day I pass at least five bus stops. At none of these bus stops is there any provided cover to protect riders from rain or wind during inclement weather. Most of these stops don't even provide a safe place for riders to stand forcing them to stand on the shoulder of the road or in the dirt off of the road. This is not way to treat those who must rely on public transportation to get to work.
  • Infrastrucure: Our community has been growing at a fast rate with the influx of jobs in and around Ft. Meade. This has led to a lot of new housing construction, which in turn requires infrastructure upgrades. These upgrades include roadways, utilities, public services growth and increased coverage. Without proper forecasting of these upgrades in order to ensure that they align with future growth we end up constantly redoing the same projects for years.
