Campaign themes
2014
Hooley's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[2]
Local Control
- Excerpt: "The last year has brought us a broad range of loss of local control. There have been several instances of overreach by the EPA. New tough restrictions have been imposed on the coal industry by unelected bureaucrats. The privacy of citizens and students is violated by new massive national data collection. These are all examples of loss of control that our private citizens, localities, counties and state should have. I am not afraid to stand up for what I believe is right to protect our local control."
Education
- Excerpt: "As a true conservative, I believe education is best handled when those making decisions about our children, are on local elected school boards, and not in Cheyenne, or Washington D.C. There are many in our current state leadership that vote contrary to local control and even try to strip powers from our elected leaders."
2nd Amendment
- Excerpt: "I will fight to protect this right and keep our laws from being infringing upon your right to bear arms."
Individual Freedom
- Excerpt: "I strongly believe that we as individuals are responsible for ourselves. That we as individuals need to take responsibility for what we do. Too many times we see our freedoms being stripped from us individually in the name of safety or for the “good of the people.” Once we lose these rights, it will be nearly impossible to get them back. I believe in standing up for our rights and listening to what our communities are concerned with."
Taxes and Spending
- Excerpt: "This budget session we saw our law makers sign off on a budget that cost our state more than what our state had budgeted for. We had to move funds from our expected savings in order to cover expenses. While Wyoming is in a great position with our slush funds and surplus, there is always room for improvement. We need to be vigilant that we do not fall into complacency because things have in the past been good."
