An effort in Mahwah, New Jersey, to recall Mayor Bill Laforet from his position was launched in February 2018.[1] Recall organizers submitted enough signatures to put the recall on the ballot on November 6, 2018.[2] Laforet was defeated in the recall election.
Laforet was previously targeted for recall in March 2015. The 2015 recall did not go to a vote after supporters ended the recall attempt on August 3, 2015.
Recall vote
The recall election was held on November 6, 2018. Laforet was defeated by John Roth.[3] Roth was sworn in on November 20, 2018.[4]

Recall supporters
NJ.com reported that petitioners sought a recall because of Laforet's conduct as mayor.[1]

State law requires a recall petitioner to file language with the local election official and establish a recall committee. The committee has 160 days from the date of the notice of intention to collect signatures. The petition requires the signatures of 25 percent of the registered voters in the jurisdiction, as of the last general election.
Recall organizers submitted 325 signatures; 117 signatures were required.[2]
