William "Bill" McCoshen is a lobbyist working as managing partner of Capitol Consultants, Inc. He was chief of staff and then campaign manager for former Governor of Wisconsin Tommy Thompson (R) before serving as the Commerce Secretary of Wisconsin from 1994 to 1998.

Career

Bill McCoshen earned a B.A. in political science and government from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1987. After college, he worked as chief of staff for former Governor of Wisconsin Tommy Thompson (R) in 1993 before taking leave to be Thompson's campaign manager in the 1994 gubernatorial election.[1][2]

In 1994, McCoshen became the Commerce Secretary of Wisconsin. In that role, he oversaw economic development programs for the state until 1998.[2][1]

Since January 2009, McCoshen has been a managing partner for the Janesville Jets, a North American Hockey League (NAHL) team. He has also served as chair of the board of directors for the NAHL.[3][1][4]

Work as a lobbyist

McCoshen joined Capitol Consultants, Inc. in 1998 as managing partner. Capitol Consultants, Inc. is a nonpartisan consulting firm that aims to help clients with government relations, public affairs, and issue-based grassroots advocacy. He also serves as executive director of Competitive Wisconsin, an organization that aims to advocate "statewide policies to retain and grow existing businesses and create new businesses." [2]

In 2013, Campaigns & Elections named McCoshen among the top Wisconsin political "influencers" saying he is "the capitol's quintessential insider lobbyist." The Wisconsin Government Accountability Board lists McCoshen as a licensed lobbyist for the 2013-2014 legislative session. He received his license to lobby the Wisconsin State Legislature in 2012.[5][6]
