McGaughey was a 2012 Republican candidate for District 59B of the Minnesota House of Representatives.
McGaughey withdrew from the race on July 30, but stayed on the ballot.[2]

McGaughey ran in the 2012 election for Minnesota House of Representatives District 59B. He was defeated by Gary Mazzotta in the Republican primary on August 14.[3][4]
