William "Bill" Walton is the chairman of Rappahannock Ventures LLC, a private equity firm that aims to engage in "educating, informing and empowering people to understand the critical importance of entrepreneurship and innovation." Walton was a member of Donald Trump's presidential transition team, a group of advisors tasked with recommending presidential appointments for the incoming administration.[2][3]

Career

Walton earned a B.S. in business administration and management as well as an M.B.A. from Indiana University Bloomington. He worked at several private equity and investment firms during his early career, including Butler Capital Corporation, Lehman Brothers, and Continental Illinois Bank. He also founded two language education companies: Language Odyssey and SuccessLab.[1][4]

Walton became the chairman and CEO of Allied Capital Corporation in 1997, where he served until 2009. He continued in the role of chairman until the company's merger with Ares Capital Corporation in 2010.[4]

Walton serves as the chairman of Rappahannock Ventures LLC, a private equity firm focused on supporting "entrepreneurship and innovation." He is also the chairman of Rush River Entertainment, a film production company that aims to produce what the group considers to be "feature films that reflect depth of character, rich story lines and eternal virtues."[2][5]

Walton hosts the podcast “On Common Ground with Bill Walton." He is also the vice president of the Council for National Policy and a senior fellow for the Discovery Institute’s Center on Wealth, Poverty and Morality.[4]

Walton was a member of Donald Trump's presidential transition team in his first presidential term. The transition team was a group of around 100 aides, policy experts, government affairs officials, and former government officials who were tasked with vetting, interviewing, and recommending individuals for top cabinet and staff roles in Trump's administration. Walton was an economic advisor for the transition team.[3][6]
