|- My highest priority is transparency. It is the foundation of all the policies and initiatives I look to advocate for. The role of an alder on the Madison Common Council is to be the elected representative of the district, to champion their questions and needs to committees, city departments, the common council, and the mayor. Alders should be available to answer questions not only on the common council’s agendas but also on the city’s actions taken at the departmental level. Alders should be transparent on votes taken, questions raised, and policies sponsored.
- I look to ensure the public safety initiatives that the people of District 12 ask for time and time again: body-worn cameras, police accountability, and curtailing the drug epidemic. I also want to ensure more accessible and equitable public transportation in the form of bus lines and better bicycle access to city roads.
- I want to ensure that affordable housing increases in availability and accessibility, as well as making homeownership affordable. It is important for the people of Madison to be able to build equity in their home and be resilient in times of economic hardship. A homeowner builds financial stability over time, but a renter does not receive the economic benefits that only come from owning property. City policy should always seek to improve the economic mobility of its residents.
