I’m Blake Clyde, a nonprofit development professional, community arts advocate, and candidate for Iowa House District 33. My career has focused on building programs and raising resources that help communities thrive. I currently work in development with the Des Moines Symphony and previously worked with Proteus, Inc., where I advocated for farmworkers and their families across Iowa and the Midwest.

Through that work, I have seen how policy decisions at the Statehouse directly affect people’s daily lives: the quality of our schools, the cost of housing and utilities, the strength of our workforce, and whether vulnerable Iowans receive the care and support they need.

I’m running because too many people in our community feel like the state government has stopped listening to them. Seniors are struggling to access services, working families are feeling the squeeze of rising costs, and our public schools are being undermined instead of strengthened.

District 33 deserves a representative who is present in the community, willing to listen, and focused on practical solutions that improve people’s lives. My campaign is about restoring a sense that government can work for everyday Iowans again by investing in strong public schools, lowering the cost of living, protecting our communities from discrimination, and holding polluters accountable for the damage they cause.
  • ower the cost of living for Iowa families. Too many people in our community are working hard and still struggling to keep up with rising costs. Housing, utilities, groceries, and healthcare are becoming harder to afford while wages fail to keep pace. I support policies that make it easier for families to stay ahead instead of falling behind, including expanding housing supply, supporting good-paying jobs, and stopping corporate practices that drive up prices. Iowa should be a place where working people can build a stable life and plan for their future.
  • est in strong public schools. Public schools are the foundation of strong communities, yet they have been repeatedly undermined by policies that divert resources away from them. I believe public money should support public education. Iowa should be investing in teachers, classrooms, and local school districts so that every student has the opportunity to succeed. Strong public schools strengthen neighborhoods, attract businesses, and ensure that young people see a future for themselves here in Iowa.
  • rotect our communities and take care of the people who built them. Iowa should be a state where everyone feels safe and respected. That means rejecting policies that target LGBTQ Iowans or other marginalized communities, and ensuring that seniors and people with disabilities can access the services they need to live with dignity. I will fight for policies that protect civil rights, improve access to care, and ensure that the state lives up to its responsibility to the people who depend on it.
m passionate about lowering the cost of living for working families, strengthening Iowa’s public schools, and ensuring that our state is a place where everyone can live with dignity and opportunity. Too many Iowans are struggling with rising housing costs, utilities, groceries, and healthcare while wages fail to keep up. I believe the state should focus on practical policies that help families stay ahead instead of falling behind. I am also committed to protecting civil rights, supporting seniors and people with disabilities who rely on state services, and holding polluters accountable so future generations inherit a healthier Iowa.
