My name is Blake and I live in the Avenues with my family. I've been on the board of the Greater Avenues Community Council (GACC) for several years, as well as an organizer of the Avenues Street Fair. My kids attend Ensign Elementary and we participate in Avenues Baseball. Professionally, I am a leader in the Utah tech community. In 2018 I founded an organization called Silicon Slopes SLC to build the tech community in our city.
  • I'm running for SLC city council to increase livability in the city. Parks and roads need to be improved. We've lost sight of nailing the basic things a city should do well.
  • I'm running for SLC city council to clean up our parks. We have amazing parks that have fallen into disrepair. We shouldn't be spending money on new parks until we can maintain our existing ones. A good example - the Green Loop. It will cost us $500m+. We can't afford that.
  • I'm running for SLC city council to bring pragmatic solutions to the homelessness crisis. Our city has led with a "housing first model", which is beneficial. However, we have not sufficiently prioritized addiction recovery and mental health resources.
Pragmatism, coalition building, inclusivity, creative friction to achieve the best outcomes.
In my day job, I have to figure out what my customers want and build a solution that will meet their needs. If the software I built wasn't useful to them, they will simply stop using it or stop paying for it and that is a bad outcome. I think city government should work the same way. We need to understand what the residents of SLC want, build solutions that will meet their needs, and ensure that there is a feedback loop so we know their needs are met.
