Primary: He was successful in the Republican primary on March 4, 2014, receiving 52.8 percent of the vote. He competed against Allison Lanty.
General: He defeated Michael T. LaHood in the general election on November 4, 2014, receiving 50.3 percent of the vote.

Education
Behrens received an undergraduate degree in legal studies and security management from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He went on to earn a master's degree in public affairs there in 1992 and a J.D. from St. Mary's University in 1994.[4]
Career
Behrens worked as a sole practitioner from 1995 until his election to the court in 2014. Prior to that, he worked as an assistant district attorney in Bexar County.[4]

Judges of the county courts are elected in partisan elections by the county they serve and serve four-year terms, with vacancies filled by a vote of the county commissioners.[5]
Qualifications
To serve on a county court, a judge must:[5]
- be at least 25 years old;
- be a resident of his or her respective county for at least two years; and
- have practiced law or served as a judge for at least four years preceding the election.
