Campaign themes
2014
Coffey's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]
Reclaiming Education Reform
- Excerpt: "We need smaller class sizes. We need to direct funds towards our public schools. We need to stop blaming individual students and teachers for not performing well against a set of under-researched means of measurement and we need to start holding the larger systems accountable. If I am elected, I will author bills that address the real needs of teachers and students, based on actual classroom experience."
Living Wage
- Excerpt: "Raising the minimum wage would put more money in the pockets of the working families of District 30. Consistant [sic] with the "multiplier effect", that marginal propensity will then be spent at local businesses. Thus, raised wages will be a net gain. It is high time we raised the minimum wage in New Mexico. It is the right thing to do."
Protecting our Environment
- Excerpt: "We New Mexicans should be on the forefront of creating new jobs in solar, wind, and geothermal energy sources in an effort to reduce our carbon emissions and in rebuilding and retooling our economy. We New Mexicans value our wilderness, and we want a smart balance of protection and access to hiking trails, waterways, our forests and open spaces."
Elections
2014
Elections for the New Mexico House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on June 3, 2014, and a general election took place on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 4, 2014.
