|I graduated from Lakeview H.S. in Battle Creek, Michigan. I received a Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Indiana State University with a major in Life Science and minors in chemistry, general science, and physical education. I am a retired teacher from North Spencer County School Corporation. I retired after 35.5 years of primarily teaching middle school science and physical education. I was a member of the Indiana State Teachers Association and National Education Association throughout my teaching career. I served as a co-head negotiator for North Spencer teachers during several negotiations. While teaching at Heritage Hills Middle/Senior High School I coached boy's swimming for 10 years, 7 - 12 boys and girls track & field for 34 years, and 7th and 8th grade football for 35 years. I am on the board of directors for Lincoln Hills Development Corporation. LHDC is a Community Action Agency with the mission of "Reducing poverty to improve lives and communities in southern Indiana."Since retiring, I have become active in the Spencer County Democratic Party as their secretary for the last 3 years.
- Indiana has shifted a large portion of the tax burden on to the middle class and working poor by increasing regressive taxes while lowering the income tax. I will work to ease the tax burden on the middle class and working poor by lowering the sales tax. I will work to create a progressive income tax system where the rich and big corporations pay their fair share.
- Since the United States Supreme Court in its Dobbs decision put abortion rights under state control, I will support restoring Roe vs. Wade in Indiana. I will support giving women the freedom to control their own reproductive health care.
- I believe public school teachers and support staff should get a substantial raise to reflect their value to the communities they serve.
I will work to fully fund public schools by ending the practice of giving education tax dollars to private schools, for-profit charter schools, and tax breaks to parents who choose to home school. I will support the creation of universal public Pre-K for all 3- and 4-year-olds.
I want to expand the 21st Century Scholar Program to include all public school students.
