The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 20, 2014. Incumbent Karen Castor Dentel was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Bob Cortes defeated Scott Sturgill in the Republican primary. Cortes defeated Dentel in the general election.[6][7]
