An effort to recall Bob Todd from his position on the Fayette County, Georgia, Board of Education was launched in October 2012.[1] The recall effort did not result in a recall election.
Reasons for recall
Melissa Hill led the recall effort. Hill said the reasons for recall were alleged ethics violations on the part of Todd. Hill believed that Todd violated an ethics code set by the Georgia Department of Education when he criticized school Superintendent Jeff Bearden’s leadership and told citizens that Bearden would be fired when a new board majority takes office in January.[1]
Path to the ballot
Fayette County Elections Supervisor Tom Sawyer received an application for a recall petition, along with the signatures of 100 voters. If the signatures had been verified, recall organizers would have then had 45 days to collect over 21,000 signatures, which represents 30% of registered in the last school board election.[1]
Recall effort on hold
In late October 2012, the recall effort was put on hold, pending a decision by the Attorney General of Georgia as to whether the original batch of signatures passed legal muster.[2]
