Career

Bobbie Patray was born in Goodlettsville, Tenn., in August 1940. Patray moved around a lot during her childhood and lived in six different states before she started the first grade. She attended Bradford High School in Starke, Fla., and went to Florida State University for one semester before marrying Ron Patray and moving to Huntsville, Ala.[1]

Patray was introduced to politics in the mid-1970s, when the wife of the principal at her daughter’s school shared materials that discussed the Equal Rights Amendment, which Patray opposed. Patray became active in the Alabama Eagle Forum and later helped found an Eagle Forum chapter in Lexington, Ky.; she also worked for three years as a legislative aide in the Kentucky General Assembly.[2][3] According to a profile on the organization's site, Patray and her family moved to Nashville, Tenn., in August 1986, where she became a full-time lobbyist and president of the Tennessee Eagle Forum, in 1987.[3]

Patray was featured as part of Nashville Post’s “In Charge” list in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015.[4][5][6][7] According to Nashville Post, the list is “the definitive who's who of Middle Tennessee’s business, political and civic leaders.”[7] In 2011, ACT for America—a conservative nonprofit organization—named Patray “Citizen Legislator of the Year,” and in 2012, the Tennessee General Assembly passed House Joint Resolution 823, which, according to its text, was “a resolution to commend Bobbie Patray for her twenty-five years of honorable and astute service to the people of Tennessee.”[8][9]
