Supporting Small Businesses So They Can Thrive and Create Jobs:

  • To foster this economic development and to fund more jobs, I will work with other our western Massachusetts legislators to:
  • ensure everyone has access to high speed internet;
  • provide funding for our hospitals and health centers to ensure that our region is known for quality healthcare;
  • continually work to build partnerships between the industries of this region, including educational, healthcare, tourism, the arts, and agriculture, to foster the type of economic growth that builds jobs but also preserves the quality of life we expect in Western Massachusetts.

Advocating for the Rights of Women and Under-Served Populations:

  • I believe in full equality and recognize that gender discrimination and lack of equal opportunity for girls and women are ongoing and pervasive problems which negatively impact us all. Women heads of households were greatly impacted by the predatory mortgage loan crisis and were deliberately targeted by subprime mortgage lenders. Good homes and housing security strengthen our families and communities and allow for economic prosperity.
  • As your Representative I will continue to be a voice for women and the disenfranchised to ensure that their rights and economic prosperity are protected.

Expansion of Early Education Programs:

  • The expansion of early public education programs means more than closing the educational gap and raising test scores to me. I will protect funding for public education to ensure a strong, robust and effective education system. I do not support charter schools. As a working-mother of four children, supporting the expansion of early education programs is a very personal issue for me. I remember how devastated I was when the early childhood center my two oldest sons attended closed. After this center closed, I was never able to find a program that gave me the same peace of mind. The process of piecing together enough programs to ensure their educational development, safety, and care was stressful and time consuming.
  • I will support the critical need for high-quality early education, daycare and out-of-school time programs.

Economic Justice:

  • As your Representative, I will continue to support and strive for legislation that ensures economic justice.

Funding and Improving Policies for More Affordable Housing:

  • I believe every resident of the Commonwealth deserves a decent home and a suitable living environment. This cannot be achieved without our leadership’s commitment to address the need for affordable housing. Public-private partnerships are effective solutions to the housing challenges we face. As a Board Member of the Amherst Community Land Trust (ACLT), founded in 2014, I am working to create affordable and sustainable homeownership opportunities for families and individuals living in Amherst. ACLT is in the process of developing two affordable homes through their partnership with Habitat for Humanity.
