What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
There are many top priorities, but amongst them are: ? Mental Health ? Opioid Crisis ? Environment ? Money in Politics ? Non-partisan gerrymandering
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I'm passionate about ? Mental Health, because we are one of the worst states in the union to be addressing this issue. It's a growing concern. We need to teach people how to recognize the signs and symptoms in themselves and others, to keep them from harming themselves or others. ? Opioid Crisis is out of control. Again, NH is one of the worst. ? We need to protect our environment, or we will have nothing to leave for our grandkids. Native Americans believe that "In our every deliberation, we must consider the impact of our decisions on the next seven generations." We need to protect our water quality and quantity. We need to find out why NH has the highest pediatric cancer rate in the country, and high rates of other cancers in all ages. Climate change is real, and we have about 10 years left to find solutions. ? Money in Politics, because the love of money is the root of all evil. ? Non-partisan gerrymandering. Deciding district boundaries should not be up to politicians. Let the people decide their politiicans, not the politicians decide who their people will be. There are non-partisan ways of determining the districting boundaries.
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
Elected officials must have good communication skills, both oral and written. They must be willing to listen, to both their constituents and to other elected officials. They must be leaders, but be willing to work with other team members, whether they are in the same party or a committee of mixed parties. They must be capable of standing firm on their core beliefs, but also be able to support the wishes of their constituents. They must be capable of negotiating, and willing to do so for the greater good. They must be intelligent, honest, transparent, responsible and approachable.
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
I feel I have described myself when I listed the characteristics and principles of a good elected leader. I serve on a committe with the Honorable Tom St. Martin, Former State Rep, Candia NH. He has said this about me: "Bonnie can be very quiet; that can lead some people to think she is timid. That is a mistake. She's listening and thinking. She can be the Mouse that Roars if need be; and whenever she speaks it's worth listening. She does her homework, listens, thinks and then speaks ? fearlessly."
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
My first job was a volunteer as a swimming instructor at the YMCA. My first paid job was as a lifeguard and swimming instructor for the Town of Meredith. I started when I was 14 (way too young for such a responsible position), and I did it for three summers.
What is your favorite thing in your home or apartment? Why?
The favorite thing in my home? That's easy! The love and support from my husband.
What was the last song that got stuck in your head?
The song, "We Are the World" has been stuck in my mind for several days. "We are the world, We are the children, We are the ones who make a brighter day, so let's start giving, There's a choice we're making, We're saving our own lives, It's true we'll make a better day, just you and me." Songwriters: Michael Jackson / Lionel Richie
Do you believe that it’s beneficial for state legislators to have previous experience in government or politics?
It is beneficial for a political candiate to have experience in government and politics, but it should not be a requriement for state legislators. As people start working for higher offices, that becomes more of a consideraiton. Government sometimes needs to be run as a business, but we must remember that it is not.
Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other legislators? Please explain your answer.
It is critical that we build relationships with other legislators, both those in our party and on the other team. If we cannot work together, we will get nothing done, and people will continue to lose faith in their government.
What process do you favor for redistricting?
We absolutely need to do redistricting. This can be done by nonpartisan basis, based on the population. It is not right for EITHER party to pick districts based on the people's political party. It should not be up to the politician to pick the people they represent, it should be the people who pick their politicians. Let it be fair for everyone.
Are you interested in running for a different political office (for example, the U.S. Congress or governor) in the future?
I have no interest, now or ever, in running for any higher office. I am currently serving as Vice Chair of the Salem Zoning Board of Adjustment. My term expires in March, and I will likely run for that position again.

Ballotpedia biographical submission form
The candidate completed Ballotpedia's biographical information submission form:
“ | What is your political philosophy?
I'm running because many people asked me to run! I was working on a bill that had more phone calls than any bill in recent memory at that time. (I'm sure that record was broken in the last two years.) I listened to a State Rep say, "I know what my constituents THINK they want; I'm going to vote the way they SHOULD want." That arrogance made me seriously consider running. I did a eulogy for the late Jane Lang, and repeated one of her favorite quotes: "If not you, who? If not now, when?" I left that ceremony with those words echoing in my head. It's my time. Is there anything you would like to add? Thank you for caring enough to read this. I would appreciate your support. If you have questions please don't hesitate to contact me. I'm open and transparent.[6] |
