Boston Election Review: Incumbents advance in pair of primaries

Massachusetts' largest city held a pair of primary elections last night for its city council. More than two candidates filed to run in Districts 4 and 7, while an insufficient number of candidates filed in the other 11 districts to necessitate a primary election.
The incumbents progressed to the November 3 general election in both races. District 4's Charles C. Yancey came in second to challenger Andrea Joy Campbell, with Campbell collecting 58 percent of the vote to Yancey's 34 percent. The District 7 primary saw incumbent Tito Jackson collect two-thirds of the total votes, with Charles L. Clemons Jr. also advancing to the general election with 18 percent of the vote.[1]
