I am Brad Batt, a seasoned entrepreneur and community advocate from Johnson City, Tennessee. For over 20 years, I've run an online software company, gaining firsthand experience in innovation, job creation, and the challenges small businesses face. I live in Johnson City with my wife, Jenny, and our daughter, Ann Marie, who is a 7th grader at Liberty Bell Middle School. Motivated by pressing issues like healthcare, education, and economic opportunity, I'm running for the Tennessee State Legislature to bring effective leadership that puts people first.
  • Break Up Ballad Health: I will fight to end the healthcare monopoly that has reduced services and harmed our community. By breaking up Ballad Health's monopoly and expanding Medicaid, we can restore medical freedom and ensure affordable healthcare for all Tennesseans.
  • Protect Public Schools: I'm committed to fully funding our public schools, raising teacher salaries, and stopping voucher scams that defund education. Every child deserves a world-class education, and I will work to make our schools safe and inclusive.
  • End Childhood Poverty: With 1 in 5 children in Tennessee living in poverty, I will advocate for affordable housing, universal Pre-K, family leave, and fair wages. My goal is to lift families out of poverty and provide them with the dignity and opportunity they deserve.
I'm passionate about healthcare reform, public education, and economic justice. I believe in making healthcare accessible and affordable by breaking up monopolies and expanding Medicaid. I'm dedicated to strengthening public education by fully funding schools and supporting teachers. Additionally, I'm committed to addressing economic disparities by advocating for policies that end childhood poverty, ensure fair wages, and create opportunities for all Tennesseans.
Integrity, accountability, and a genuine commitment to public service are the most important characteristics for an elected official. They should prioritize the needs of their constituents over special interests, listen actively to community concerns, and work transparently to improve people's lives. Upholding values like dignity, opportunity, and justice, an elected official should strive to create fair and inclusive policies. Empathy, honesty, and the courage to stand up for what's right are essential to effective leadership.
I believe my combination of leadership, experience, and commitment would make me a successful officeholder. As an entrepreneur and small business owner for over 20 years, I've developed strong problem-solving skills and understand the challenges facing our community. My background in engineering and information technology equips me with analytical thinking and innovative approaches to complex issues. I'm deeply committed to public service and value integrity, transparency, and accountability. These qualities position me to effectively represent and serve the people of our district.

Brad is a small business owner and enthusiast. He is the founder of an internet software company and believes that we must ensure there is still room for the American Dream, for people to be able to create a meaningful life for themselves. He worries that dream is slipping away for too many.

Brad's beliefs are rooted in freedom and fairness for all. That everyone deserves the freedom to live their life to the fullest and that every person has the right to health care, to love who they want to love, and to equal justice under the law.

Brad and his wife Jenny live in Johnson City. His daughter, Ann Marie, will be a 3rd grader this year at Towne Acres Elementary.
  • We deserve a fair economy that works for everyone.
  • We must immediately expand Medicaid in Tennessee.
  • Public education must be a top priority for our state.
EDUCATION

Tennessee has the money to invest in education without raising taxes, but our state government has failed to act. Instead, we have teachers buying supplies using money from their own pockets.

Tennessee is:

🏫 43rd in nation in Overall Funding
📚 47th in nation in Effort
👨🏽‍🎓 45th in Spending Per Pupil

HEALTH CARE

Our choices in Tennessee shouldn't be limited to living in either a healthcare desert or under a medical monopoly. Hospitals in rural towns are closing at alarming rates. And in the parts of our state where hospitals aren't closing, one giant corporation controls all access.

We must immediately expand Medicaid in Tennessee.

This isn't a controversial idea; 38 states have already expanded Medicaid, including our neighbors Kentucky and Arkansas. What's more, 65% of Tennesseans support Medicaid expansion.

OUR ECONOMY

Half of our community is living in poverty or near poverty.

Fifteen percent of Washington County households are living below the federal poverty level. An additional 30% are "ALICE" households: Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. It's a more complicated way of saying "the working poor."

The percentage of current ALICE households is also double what it was in 2009.

We deserve a fair economy that works for everyone.
