I'm a father and Springfield resident and I'm simply looking for the chance to be involved in making our community better. In real life, I'm an editing team lead for a digital marketing company based in the Salt Lake City area.
  • Basically, I'm here to listen, learn, and collaborate with other council members and Springfield residents to make this a community that works for all of us. I believe that we're stronger together than we are separately.
  • I would love to increase community engagement and build the identity of a Springfield resident. We're a small town, but we have a lot to offer. I would like to lead efforts to get the neighborhood more involved in local government and making their voices heard.
  • We're in a great spot with an easy commute to Battle Creek, Marshall, Portage, Kalamazoo, and more. If we can encourage and incentivize affordable housing and promote our town well, we may be able to attract more residents who are looking for a quiet home to return to after working in larger cities.
I'm interested in making sure out community is a safe, inviting home for all residents. Tolerance and acceptance are top priorities and I want to lead from the city council with policies that support these ideals.
The most important responsibilities are the ability to listen and learn. We represent the people of our community—that's at the core of this post.
I read all sorts of books, but I get most passionate about fiction. So I think I'd have to choose "Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell" by Susanna Clarke. It's funny, epic, and full of magic. I'm not sure how many times I've reread it and recommended it to others.
Gosh, songs get stuck in my head constantly until I can exorcise them by listening to them (possibly more than once). This is weird but the most recent one just might be "Rock On" by Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem—who, yes, are Muppets. I've also had the acoustic version of AJR's "Inertia" in my head a lot.
Experience is always valuable, but I think this is a good starter position for someone new to government. As long as someone has the right attitude and comes looking to work together, prior experience shouldn't be required.
