Brad Martin was a member of the Virginia Beach City Council. He assumed office on January 1, 2014. He left office on December 1, 2014.
Martin ran for election to the Virginia Beach City Council to represent Bayside District. He lost in the general election on November 6, 2018.
Biography
Martin holds a B.S. in Physics and Engineering from Washington and Lee University. His professional experience includes working as an Engineer at Martin Engineering and serving on the boards of the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Area Board, the city’s Process Improvement Steering Committee, the Arts & Humanities Commission, Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters Development Advisory Board, Friends of the Virginia Beach Historic Houses and the Rotary Club of Cape Henry.[1]

- Excerpt: "Virginia Beach is recognized as having the fourth best school system in the country. It’s no accident. Many Council and School Board members made difficult choices to invest in our schools and our teachers, and parents and students throughout the City have done their part as well in creating a school system that is the envy of almost every other city in America. I support a periodic review of our updated school funding formula, which allows our education system to be supported by multiple revenue streams and less vulnerable to either funding cuts or variances in property values."
Economy
- Excerpt: "Virginia Beach has done well in recent years and we can build on those successes. The modern economy makes it possible that, because of advances in telecommuting and information sharing, Virginia Beach can be a home to almost any modern industry. Since small business is the creator of most new jobs, we should be nurturing, educating, and attracting entrepreneurs who can help take a local economy to the next level. This requires quality schools, a lifestyle that’s vibrant and creative, with neighborhoods that are safe and secure, and a local tax structure that encourages new business and job expansion."
Public safety
- Excerpt: "Our Police, Firefighters, and Emergency Medical Services personnel are among the best-trained and best-performing in the nation. It’s easy to remember the big events where they have shined under the public spotlight, like the Good Friday plane crash. But our public safety professionals and volunteers bring their A-game every day. As a Councilman, I keep them a high priority to make sure they have the best training and equipment possible and make sure we hire enough personnel to make sure calls get quick responses when lives are on the line. In these days of pay compression, staffing fluctuations and revenues that are always outpaced by needs, we should make a special effort that we retain and reward those in uniform who risk their lives at any moment to save the lives of others."
Transportation
- Excerpt: "Virginia’s most populous city should be a city of mobility. It should be easier to travel around our City, from Kempsville to Great Neck, from Shore Drive to Town Center, and from the Amphitheater to the Oceanfront. I will fight to give citizens more transportation choices to more easily enjoy our entire City, all year long. Also key to transportation improvement is making it easier for visitors to travel to and from Virginia Beach. Our economy is regional, and our tourism economy draws from states hundreds of miles away. Our City’s visitors must be able to arrive and leave the City efficiently, or it will cost us revenue and jobs."

The city of Virginia Beach, Virginia held elections for city council on November 4, 2014. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 10, 2014.
Six council seats were up for election.[3] In the at-large race, M. Ben Davenport and incumbent John D. Moss defeated incumbent Brad Martin and George Furman, III.[4][5]
