This measure sought to increase the current school levy by a rate of $.62 per $1,000 of assessed value for a further five years in order to continue to pay for educational services for students with disabilities in the district.[2]

The question on the ballot:

Shall the 4.45 mills limitation (currently reduced to 3.8240 mills as required by the Headlee amendment to the Michigan Constitution of 1963) on the annual property tax previously approved by the electors of Branch Intermediate School District, Michigan be increased by .626 mill ($0.626 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation) for the education of students with a disability for five (5) years, 2012 through 2016, inclusive; the estimate of the revenue the intermediate school district will collect if the millage is approved and levied in 2012 is approximately $695,179 from local property taxes authorized herein?[3]
